Does the appearance of dimpled skin on your legs make you feel self-conscious in shorts or swimwear? If cellulite bothers you, you’ve probably tried over-the-counter remedies that don’t work. We’ll tell you a secret: they will never work! Why? Because cellulite isn’t a skin condition that can be addressed using topical products. What is cellulite? The answer will help you find solutions that actually work instead of wasting money on topicals and treatments that don’t provide results.
What is Cellulite?
Nearly 90 percent of women struggle with cellulite at some point during their lives. It’s a normal part of the aging process, like fine lines and wrinkles, and harmless. However, if you are tired of cellulite, you’ve probably dropped a significant amount of money trying to get rid of it. The problem with many products, particularly topical creams, is that they cannot adequately address the underlying cause of cellulite. Why is this? Cellulite starts beneath the skin and is comprised of irregular pockets of fat separated by connective tissue.
What Causes Cellulite?
Women of all shapes and sizes struggle with cellulite. However, there are a few lifestyle choices that can contribute to cellulite forming, including unhealthy diet, inadequate exercise, slow metabolism, and even hormones. Cellulite is also more noticeable in lighter skinned individuals. It’s important to note, however, that most doctors agree that cellulite usually runs in families. This means if your mother and grandmother had cellulite, you’re more likely to have it as well, regardless of lifestyle choices.
How to Get Rid of Cellulite
Whether you’re just starting to notice cellulite or you’ve tried cellulite treatments and products with no luck, we can help you with your lumpy, dimply skin woes. Before we get into what works, let’s talk about what doesn’t work: topical cellulite creams.
Do Cellulite Creams Work?
Cellulite creams come in all brands and all price points. Most contain some type of ingredient that promises to increase circulation, improve collagen production, burn fat or control inflammation. Some of the most popular ingredients you may see include caffeine, retinol and vitamin C. Other ingredients range from the obscure, such as fisetin, to the strange, such as horsetail extract.
While cellulite creams may come in beautiful packages, they simply cannot live up to their amazing claims. If they provide any help at all, the results will be temporary and unsatisfactory. Something more lasting is needed.
Do Cellulite Treatments Work?
Of course, many other options exist for cellulite treatment. Some people swear by massage while others look to liposuction or other surgical treatments. Massage is performed to increase circulation, but this typically has little to no positive effect on cellulite. Liposuction removes fat cells but usually fail to correct dimpling. Lasers and shock-wave treatments provide the most promising results, although you will need more than one treatment to see the best results.
Z-Wave Cellulite Reduction in Indianapolis at the LASSI
Z-Wave cellulite reduction is a unique treatment that relies on radial shock-waves to break up fatty deposits, increase circulation, and improve collagen production to smooth out the skin and underlying tissues. It can be used to treat cellulite in the belly, upper arms, legs and buttocks. You will start seeing results after two or three treatments and may see full results in as little as six sessions. To keep up the results, you will need to return periodically for Z-Wave sessions.

Non-surgical treatments for body sculpting are everywhere. Treatments for fat reduction, skin tightening, and even cellulite reduction promise results without liposuction. While liposuction can still provide excellent results for many patients, more and more are interested in non-surgical body sculpting treatments. In this article, we’ll explore two different body sculpting treatments we offer in our Indianapolis dermatology and aesthetics practice: CoolSculpting for fat reduction combined with Z-Wave for cellulite removal.
Combination Body Sculpting Procedures at the LASSI
CoolSculpting is the #1 non-surgical fat reduction procedure in the United States. At the LASSI, we provide this treatment for all FDA-approved treatment areas, including the inner and outer thighs and beneath the buttocks (banana rolls). However, many patients who desire fat reduction in the upper legs also want to reduce the appearance of cellulite. As you may have guessed, CoolSculpting does not treat cellulite.
Enter Z-Wave. This cellulite reduction treatment uses a handheld massage device to gently and comfortably break up pockets of gas and fat strands that cause skin dimpling. In addition to cellulite reduction, Z-Wave can also improve your visible results following a CoolSculpting treatment.
How does this combination body sculpting procedure work?
CoolSculpting freezes fat using cryolipolysis. This kills the excess fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. Once the fat cells are frozen and break apart, they are absorbed and filtered out through the body’s lymphatic system. Following any CoolSculpting treatment, the area is massaged to help speed up the breakdown of frozen fat cells. This helps improve visible results in the treatment area more quickly.
Adding on the Z-Wave treatment, the handheld pulsing device designed to break up pockets of cellulite can also be used to more effectively break up the frozen fat cells. This provides more precise, faster results. On top of that, the cellulite in that area is also broken up to reveal a smoother skin surface.
Can liposuction treat unwanted fat and cellulite in a single procedure?
While liposuction can help improve the appearance of cellulite to a small degree, many patients will still benefit from an additional cellulite treatment following the procedure. This will improve overall body sculpting results. Once you’ve healed, our providers at LASSI Skin can give you a relaxing massage experience with the Z-Wave cellulite reduction device.
