Are you ready for a change in your appearance, but not ready for laser treatments to look better? Whether you’re trying to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, or you want to diminish acne scars, stretch marks and uneven pigmentation, microneedling is a method that can help you achieve it!

A non-surgical treatment, microneedling creates tiny channels in your epidermis to minimize wrinkles, pigmentation issues and scars. A good alternative to skin resurfacing, this minimally invasive procedure helps your body increase production of collagen that supports delicate tissue while allowing for deeper penetration of topical products.

Benefits of Microneedling and Microneedling with PRP

Microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy, which offers treatments to improve skin texture and tone by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles and reducing hyperpigmentation of the skin. Reducing superficial defects on your skin benefits your self-confidence as well as your appearance. Treatment can improve stretch marks, acne scars and vertical lines around your mouth. It can minimize the appearance of capillary vessels as well.

What to Expect During a Microneedling Consultation

Your meeting with the skin care experts here at the LASSI gives you the opportunity to present your concerns, needs and desires. Our staff will listen carefully before examining the areas you want to improve. You are free to ask any questions as we make sure all your questions are answered. After we review your medical history, we explore treatment options that can achieve the look you want. At that time, we give you an estimate for the number of sessions that are likely right for you. Our consultation helps you achieve a comfort level with your choice of treatment that will have you looking forward to a brighter appearance!

What to Expect During Your Microneedling Treatment

We apply a topical anesthesia to minimize any discomfort you may experience during your microneedling treatment. After we prepare the area, our staff will roll a small roller studded with fine microneedles 15 to 20 times in horizontal, vertical and oblique directions. We are quickly and easily able to control any pinpoint bleeding that may occur. After your treatment, we apply saline-saturated pads to the area. Treatment lengths may vary by the size of the area, but the procedure usually lasts for about 20 minutes.

If you opt for a microneedling with PRP treatment, there are some extra steps involved. First, to get PRP (platelet rich plasma), we will perform a blood draw. The vials will be placed into a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the rest of the blood. The PRP is then used during your microneedling treatment to enhance your results. The micro-channels created in the skin will absorb the skin healing, anti-aging PRP more readily, providing you with enhanced results.

Microneedling FAQ

indianapolis collagen induction therapy

Getting answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about microneedling may help you resolve some of your concerns. These are the questions we receive most often from our LASSI patients.

How does microneedling and collagen induction therapy work?

The process utilizes a power hand-piece to create tiny channels in the dermis of the skin that initiates the body’s natural healing process to create collagen and elastin. The Collagen P.I.N. device allows the provider to adjust depth penetration depending on your needs and desired results. The microscopic punctures also allow topical products to penetrate the skin more deeply, providing advanced results.

How is microneedling with PRP different from microneedling without PRP?

PRP is platelet-rich plasma; it is extracted from your own blood, which you will have drawn prior to your microneedling treatment. Prior to treatment, we will draw blood just as if you were getting a regular lab work. The vials are then placed into a centrifuge to separate out the PRP. The PRP is then applied to the skin during your microneedling treatment, allowing your skin to absorb the beneficial anti-aging elements.

How is treatment administered?

Individual results may vary from person to person.

After gently numbing the area with a topical anesthetic cream, your provider will use the Collagen P.I.N. device across the area of the skin requiring treatment. Depending on your needs, the provider will adjust depth penetration settings of the fine needles. After your face is sufficiently numbed, a topical skin care product may be applied, allowing for additional skin nourishment and to make the area slick; this allows the microneedling pen to glide across the skin more easily.

Who is a good candidate for collagen induction therapy with the Collagen P.I.N.?

Almost everyone who has a scar or skin imperfection qualifies as a candidate for the treatment. Age and skin color make no difference in the effectiveness of the process. Any active infections may delay the timing of therapy, but most people who want to improve an affected area can do so.

What makes Collagen P.I.N. different from other microneedling devices?

There are many microneedling devices on the market that provide good results, However, an advantage that Collagen P.I.N. has is its ability to activate cellular regeneration more effectively than other devices. It helps tighten and lift your skin, while minimizing problem areas such as acne scars, stretch marks, fine lines, poor skin texture and injury scars.

Is the treatment painful? Can anesthesia be used?

Our patients experience painless treatment with a local anesthetic we apply to prevent any discomfort during the short procedure.

How long do microneedling treatments take? How many treatments will I need?

Each treatment requires about 20 minutes, and your condition may take as many as six or as few as three sessions. The severity of your problem area determines how many you need. To maintain your improved condition, we recommend that you return for one or two sessions each year.

When will I see results? How long do results last?

Within a couple of weeks, you may notice a difference in your skin’s texture as the process starts stimulating collagen production. To maintain the results, we recommend you supplement your program with one or two sessions each year.

Is there any downtime with microneedling treatments or microneedling with PRP?

Your first treatment may cause redness for up to five days, but you can wear makeup to cover any lingering effects. Some patients feel a little tightness and slight burning in the area in addition to some mild skin peeling, but this subsides within a few days. Your skin may show a significant difference in texture within 14 days as the treatment starts to take effect.

How much does microneedling cost?

Individual results may vary from person to person.

Microneedling costs significantly less than laser skin treatments, and cost depends upon the treatment area, the number of treatments you’ll require, and the topical skin care products necessary to achieve results. During a consultation, our skin care team will be able to provide you with a quote for a single treatment or a treatment series. Patients who purchase a treatment series in advance enjoy a la carte savings.

Who shouldn’t get collagen induction therapy?

Collagen induction therapy is considered safe for most patients. If you’re allergic to lidocaine, discuss receiving treatment without the topical anesthetic with our providers.

What are the side effects of microneedling treatments?

Typical responses to treatment include mild flaking, redness, a slight burning sensation and tightness. They tend to occur after the first treatment and diminish with successive treatments.

Where can I find before and after photos of microneedling results?

Collagen P.I.N. before and after photos can be found on their official website. Our skin care experts can also show you before and after photos upon request in our dermatology practice.
