It’s been almost a decade since a new Botox Cosmetic competitor came onto the market, and it’s finally here! Jeuveau, aka #NEWTOX, is the latest injectable Botox alternative, now available at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana (LASSI).
Evolus Aesthetic, the California-based company responsible for bringing us Jeuveau, received approval from the FDA to treat glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows) using Evolus Jeuveau. It’s exciting to offer new options for our patients who want to smooth away frown lines and look younger. But how does Jeuveau measure up to the other wrinkle relaxing injectables like Botox Cosmetic? Below, we compare and contrast Jeuveau vs Botox Cosmetic and other injectable wrinkle relaxers offered in our Indianapolis dermatology practice.
Jeuveau vs Botox Cosmetic: The Similarities
How are Jeuveau and Botox similar? Both injectables are:
- wrinkle relaxers comprised of a purified form of botulinum toxin
- considered safe for most patients, based on clinical trials data, with mild side-effects
- FDA-approved to treat frown lines (glabellar lines)
- an effective solution to facial aging when administered by a board-certified dermatologic surgeon
- low risk when administered by a board-certified dermatologist
- temporary, with results lasting up to six months following treatment
- offered as both prevention and treatment for facial aging
As similar as they are, there are some notable differences which will determine the best choice for your needs. Discuss your options with our team of dermatology experts during your personalized consultation to find out which treatments are right for you.
Jeuveau vs Botox Cosmetic: The Differences
There is very little difference between Jeuveau and Botox. However, notable contrasts between the two wrinkle relaxers do exist. Consider the following:
- Botox Cosmetic is FDA-approved to treat frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet; Jeuveau is FDA-approved for frown lines only.
- Jeuveau is theoretically stronger than Botox, due to the manufacturing process, which does not degrade the botulinum toxin protein.
- Botox has more than 10 FDA-approvals, with medical applications that date back to the 1980s.
There are more subtle differences between the two that determine which injectable your dermatologist will recommend. Discuss this with LASSI founder, board-certified dermatologic surgeon, and medical director, Dr. C. William Hanke.
Jeuveau vs Botox in Clinical Trials
Botox Cosmetic and Jeuveau were compared in a double-blind trial conducted with patients in France, Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Canada. The clinical data showed that in a test of Jeuveau vs Botox, there was a mere 4.4% difference in patient satisfaction.
That being said, as Allergan’s Botox Cosmetic has been around for decades, there is far more clinical data available.
What About Dysport and Xeomin?
Yes, other Botox alternatives exist and have been on the market for many years. Therefore, no comparison between Jeuveau and Botox Cosmetic can be complete without also mentioning Dysport and Xeomin Aesthetic. Dysport, like Botox, has multiple anti-aging and medical applications. It does behave a little differently, however. Xeomin, like Jeuveau, is FDA-approved for frown lines. All of these injectables are used in off-label applications as well, including neck and jawline tightening. If you want to learn more about how Botox measures up to Dysport and Xeomin, read our article about Botox Alternatives.
Can I Get Jeuveau During a Liquid Facelift Treatment?
Like Botox, Jeuveau can be used together with cosmetic dermal fillers for a liquid facelift. A little Jeuveau injected into the frown lines may be combined with some Restylane under the eyes, Juvederm in the lips, and Sculptra Aesthetic in the cheeks, or some other combination which works best for you. Discuss your facial rejuvenation goals and options during your consultation with Dr. Hanke.
Why Choose the LASSI for Botox & Botox Alternatives?
Whether it’s Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau, the more important choice is where you go to receive these treatments. Poor results from Botox Cosmetic and similar injectables can almost always be attributed to improper application by an inexperienced and/or unqualified injector. At the LASSI, all of our cosmetic injectable treatments are administered by LASSI founder and board-certified dermatologic surgeon Dr. C. William Hanke. With decades of experience and leadership in medical and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Hanke brings a level of expertise unsurpassed by many of his peers.
The LASSI also conducts clinical trials, including those for Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin Aesthetic. In fact, the LASSI led clinical trials for the first ever cosmetic application for Xeomin, resulting in its subsequent FDA-approval.
When you come to the LASSI, you are trusting your care and results to an experienced leader in the field of cosmetic dermatology, injectables, and anti-aging in Indianapolis, IN.
