CoolSculpting in Indianapolis
Looking to lose that little bit of stubborn body fat that just won’t budge no matter how much dieting and exercising you do? Looking for a solution that won’t require any anesthesia or surgery?
The Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana, which has pioneered many of the advances in Tumescent Liposuction treatments, is pleased to now be offering the #1 non-surgical liposuction alternative treatment to patients in the Greater Indianapolis area: CoolSculpting.
About CoolSculpting: An Overview
CoolSculpting is the first and only non-surgical body contouring treatment that uses a cooling method called crylipolysis to freeze and permanently destroy unwanted fat cells. Frozen fat cells die off and are then expelled using the body’s own lymphatic system, similar to Kybella for double chin reduction. After a few treatments, most patients see a notable reduction in fat cells that never return, providing long-term benefits without needles or surgery.

What to Expect During Your Consultation
During your consultation, our team will listen as you explain your trouble spots that haven’t responded well to diet and exercise. Often due to genetics, even the most physically fit individuals have stubborn pockets of fat in the abdominal region, obliques, back and bra area, thighs and even the double chin. Our staff will then examine you, take a full medical history and determine if you’re a good candidate for the CoolSculpting procedure.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
After a consultation with a dermatologic surgeon, our team will make you comfortable in a treatment room. A gel pad applicator will be placed on the target area to protect your skin from the cold; this allows the system to only target the fat cells, so no other tissue is damaged in the process. Then, the staff will place the applicator, turn on the machine and allow you to relax while CoolSculpting targets and freezes unwanted fat cells. The entire procedure is finished in about one hour, at which time we will massage the area and schedule a follow-up appointment.
A consultation with a board-certified dermatologic surgeon and liposuction expert is the best way to have your questions about CoolSculpting and non-surgical body contouring answered. However, while you wait for your initial consultation date, here is a list of common questions and answers about CoolSculpting.
How does CoolSculpting Work?
CoolSculpting uses a method of action called cryolipolysis, which freezes fat. Frozen fat cells then die off and are eliminated by the body’s own lymphatic system. CoolSculpting is able to freeze the fat cells, and only the fat cells, without damaging surrounding tissue. This allows patients to be safe and comfortable during and after treatment, giving them results without any downtime.
How is treatment administered?
After a gel pad applicator is placed on the skin to protect skin tissue, the CoolSculpting applicator is adjusted into the proper positions. Once the CoolSculpting device is turned on, the applicator gathers the skin and fat in the treatment site area in order to surround and freeze the targeted fat cells.
Who is a good candidate for cryolipolysis fat reduction?
Anyone who is of relatively good health, is at a healthy body weight, and wants to eliminate stubborn, unwanted fat is a good candidate for CoolSculpting. As no anesthesia or medications are administered, CoolSculpting is a very safe treatment option for most patients.
Who should not have this treatment?
If you are not at or near your ideal healthy weight (within 30 lbs of your healthy weight), then you are not considered a good candidate. We recommend that if you are overweight, that you work with a physician on weight loss options and goals. This will get you closer to your target weight prior to treatment.
Is this treatment painful? Is anesthesia used?
When applied properly, CoolSculpting should cause only minimal discomfort. If you experience discomfort during the procedure, alert us immediately and we’ll make adjustments to ensure your comfort.
As CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure, anesthesia is not required.
How long does treatment take?
For one treatment area, the procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes to complete. Multiple treatments are often required to obtain desired results, and if you’re treating more than one area (for instance, your right outer thigh and left outer thigh), each treatment will take 45-60 minutes on its own. If you’re treating more than one area at a time, ask us about using multiple CoolSculpting devices utilized at the same time to lessen the treatment time.
When will I see results?
Every patient is different, and each treatment area responds differently to the CoolSculpting treatment. Some patients see results immediately following the first treatment. However, multiple treatments are usually required to get the desired effect. We will schedule follow-up appointments after each treatment to monitor your progress and make recommendations to help you reach your goals.
How long do results last?
To answer this question, you must first understand how fat cells function. New fat cells are not produced by the body after puberty. When we overeat, consume unhealthy foods or neglect to exercise, our body doesn’t produce new fat cells; it simply feeds the fat cells that are already there, making them expand. The growth of existing fat cells is responsible for weight gain. When we diet and exercise again, the fat cells shrink, but they are all still there.
With CoolSculpting and liposuction treatments, the fat cells don’t shrink; they are actually removed or destroyed. This means fewer fat cells for your body to feed, and fewer fat cells to expand when we fall into unhealthy habits.
That doesn’t mean you should stop taking care of yourself. Quite the contrary. Body fat is important, and not all fat cells are eliminated. So if you fall back into unhealthy habits, you can still gain weight. But the fat cells that were removed by CoolSculpting will never return.
Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime with this procedure, as it’s a completely non-invasive treatment.

How much does CoolSculpting cost?
The cost of CoolSculpting varies depending on several factors:
- Experience of the provider
- Area of the body being treated
- Number of treatments required to get desired results
It’s important to not select a provider based on cost alone, as very low costs often mean that the provider is inexperienced in CoolSculpting and/or liposuction. You should choose a provider based on results, experience, and reputation.
During your consultation, we will be able to provide you with a quote for a single treatment and/or a series of treatments.
What are the potential side effects?
During your treatment, you may experience sensations of tugging, pinching, cold, aching or even cramping. These sensations usually subside once the area becomes numb. After treatment, your skin will be red, potentially for about 1-2 weeks. Some patients also experience some bruising that subsides within a few days.
Very rare side effects include:
- Paradoxical hyperplasia, an enlargement of tissue in the treatment area
- Freezer Burn
- Late onset discomfort
- Dizziness, fainting and/or nausea during or immediately after treatment
- Subcutaneous induration (a formation of hard nodules in the treatment area)
Where can CoolSculpting be used?
Currently, CoolSculpting is FDA approved for visible fat reduction in the abdominal area, obliques (flanks), inner and outer thighs, back/bra fat area and double chin (neck). Patients also commonly undergo fat reduction in the upper arms and the knees with some success.
