Microblading is an aesthetic service offered at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana. Using a semi-permanent pigment, your certified brow specialist will make microscopic “cuts” in the skin using a “blade” and manually deposit pigment under the top layer of the skin. After the treatment, results can last up to three years, giving you perfectly shaped and filled eyebrows without cosmetics. What kind of tool is used for microblading eyebrows?

A microblading pen or blade is a series of very fine needles assembled together into a blade shape. The blade of a microblading pen is much thinner than the needles used for other tattoos.

What kind of pigments are used?

There are many different pigments that can be used for microblading eyebrows. The pigments we use are an iron oxide-base and have been FDA approved. Iron oxide is a very stable compound that can deliver rich, warm tones. Others are derived synthetically. All are safe for use around your eyes, although some people with certain allergies and sensitivities may not respond well to the treatment. What’s the difference between permanent and semipermanent?

The difference between permanent and semipermanent tattooing is how deeply the pigment is delivered under the skin. Traditional tattooing is intended to last for a very long time, so tattoo artists use special, electromagnetic coil machines in order to deliver the ink into the deeper layers of your skin.

Procedures like microblading are only meant to be semipermanent, so the pigment is only delivered into the more superficial layers of your skin. This is the layer of the skin that naturally renews itself on a regular basis. Because we’re introducing pigment so close to the surface of the skin, we are able to imitate the look of real hair. Do not let the word “semi” deter you; it does not mean they will only last a little while. They will last for as long as they are properly maintained.

Who will administer my treatment? What are their credentials?

Can I get microblading over an existing eyebrow tattoo?

Microblading eyebrows can be done over existing permanent brow tattooing. However, not everyone with existing eyebrow tattoos is a candidate for microblading. In order for the procedure to show through in a natural manner, the existing tattoo must be significantly faded. Our certified brow specialists are happy to do a consultation to determine if microblading is right for you. We can make specific recommendations based on your unique needs.

Can I get microblading if I’m pregnant or nursing?

No, we do not microblade pregnant or nursing mothers.

How long after my microblading do I have to wait before getting Botox?

It is best to wait at least two weeks after the procedure before getting Botox or other wrinkle relaxers like Dysport or Xeomin. You may also get Botox up to two weeks before your microblading treatment.

My friend tried microblading, and her results didn’t last long. Why does that happen?

Microblading results vary from person to person for many reasons. For example, skin thickness may make the pigment take unevenly or poorly. In addition, those who are anemic may find that their results don’t last as long due to iron deficiency.
