What to Look for in Botox Before and After Photos

Millions of men and women receive Botox Cosmetic treatments each year, and countless aesthetic medical practices offer this service. It’s difficult to determine which practices will give the best results, so it’s important to do your homework. This includes looking at the physicians’ board certifications, licensing, educational background, and experience. However, Botox before and after photos are probably the easiest and fastest way to determine if a physician can give you natural-looking, beautiful results.

What to Look for in Botox Before and After Photos

You’ve likely seen Botox before and after photos on the official Allergan website. The question isn’t “Does Botox work?” Rather, the question is, “Can this doctor give me good results using Botox?”  The tool is only as good as the physician who uses it. You’ve seen great results and horrible results. How do you avoid the horrible results? Choose a physician who is:

  • a board-certified dermatologic surgeon
  • has years of experience administering Botox to patients
  • has plenty of Botox before and after photos to show you during your consultation

When examining before and after photos, you want to be able to ask your dermatologic surgeon questions about the results. You should be able to see a visible reduction in lines and wrinkles, but the results should look totally natural.

What Can I Expect From My Botox Results?

Botox results vary from person to person. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Botox is a prescription product and a medical treatment. Wrinkle relaxing injectables aren’t for everyone and no two people will have identical results. That being said, your dermatologic surgeon can give you an idea of what kind of results you can expect to see based on your needs, expectations, and the amount of Botox used during treatment.

If you want to really see your results, we highly recommend consenting to taking photos. Much of the time, as the results gradually appear over several days and up to 2 weeks, patients don’t notice their results as dramatically. Having photos helps you see just how much of a difference the treatment made. It also prevents you from going too far with treatments or seeking out unrealistic expectations that lead to poor results.

Can I Trust Botox Photos I Find Online?

botox before and after photosIn the beauty industry, we have all gotten used to edited photos that are not a true representation of expected results. However, when you work with a board-certified dermatologic surgeon, the FDA and medical ethics ensure that you see and receive real, accurate depictions of results. If you’re working with a board-certified dermatologic surgeon in good standing who has an excellent reputation, you can rest assured that their treatment photos depict real patient results.

If you don’t see a lot of treatment photos on a provider’s website, don’t assume they don’t have the experience or results to show you. Many patients have approved their photos for use inside of the practice but haven’t given permission for publication in marketing materials. Your dermatologic surgeon likely has a large collection of Botox before and after photos to show you once you arrive for your consultation. While it would be nice to see more photos before that first appointment, feel comfortable and confident knowing that your doctor values patient privacy.

What About Dysport and Xeomin?

Botox isn’t the only wrinkle relaxer out there. Dysport is a popular alternative that is also FDA-approved. While Dysport is similar in many ways, it has important differences that would make it a better treatment for some patients. Xeomin is another Botox alternative which operates a little differently. None of these wrinkle relaxers is inherently better than the others; however, your dermatologic surgeon may find that one of these lesser known botulinum toxin wrinkle relaxers would be better for your unique needs.
