Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) VBeam Laser

vbeam pulsed dye laser logo

Our pulsed dye laser was one of the first in use in the United States, and our very own Dr. Hanke has instructed courses internationally on the use of this V-Beam Laser.

The pulsed dye laser is the treatment of choice for:

  • port wine stains
  • vascular birthmarks
  • rosacea
  • stretch marks
  • red scars

V Beam Perfecta Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL)

The V Beam Perfecta is our state-of-the-art pulsed dye laser. It is used to treat vascular birthmarks (e.g. portwine stains) rosacea, red scars, and other red skin conditions. Many patients come for treatment of “red faces and red noses,” and leave with normal colored skin following pulsed dye laser.

Why Choose the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana for V Beam Pulsed Dye Laser?

Dr. C. William Hanke, The LASSI founder and board-certified dermatologic surgeon, was the first physician to teach other physicians on how to use this laser skin treatment.  Additionally, Dr. Hanke has written numerous publications related to laser skin treatments, laser surgery and treatment of chronic skin conditions.  The Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Indiana is also an accredited research facility, taking part in numerous clinical trials related to the treatment of dermatologic conditions and revolutionary anti-aging procedures.   This makes The LASSI the premier destination in Indiana for all of your dermatology and skin care needs.

How does the VBeam Pulsed Dye Laser Work?

The VBeam pulsed dye laser is effective at reducing facial redness using a gentle, targeted approach that effects only the redness in the skin while leaving healthy skin untouched.

VBeam Perfecta Pulsed Dye Laser, As Seen on “The Doctors”

VBeam was covered on the hit talk show “The Doctors,” and how it can treat facial redness with a gentle approach.  In this demonstration, the physician uses balloons to show how gentle the laser treatment is while eliminating redness.  As you will see, only the red balloon is affected by the laser, while the white, outermost balloon is left untouched by the laser.

What to Expect During Treatment

After a consultation with our team of dermatology professionals, we will schedule your first treatment for pulsed dye laser to remove skin redness.  Pulsed dye laser treatments are relatively pain free.  Some patients say it feels a bit like a rubber band snap, similar to laser hair removal or other gentle laser treatments.  However, some patients do benefit from a topical anesthetic, which can be applied 30 minutes prior to treatment. At that time, the patient and providers will all wear goggles to protect the eyes from the laser light before treatment begins.  The laser light is then used to target the cause of facial redness in the blood vessels, which absorb the light and eliminate red coloring in the skin.

After PDL Treatment: What to Expect

After your treatment with the VBeam Pulsed Dye Laser, you will notice some increased redness and swelling in the treated area that will subside within a week.  After this time, you will see more even skin tone and reduction in skin redness.  Depending on the type of facial redness being treated, some patients will see bruising that will subside within a few days with ice application.

To ensure best results, we will encourage you to avoid intense physical activity post-treatment, specifically high-impact or contact sports.  Additionally, we recommend liberal use of sunscreen to protect your skin as it will be sensitive.

After four treatments with the pulsed dye laser, patients see a 70-80% reduction in facial redness.

Vbeam Complications

When treatment is provided by a licensed medical professional, Vbeam side effects are extremely rare. However, some patients report some white spots, scarring or brown spots.  Again, these are extremely rare when this treatment is operated by a licensed medical professional who is well trained in the use of pulsed dye laser and is under the supervision of a board-certified dermatologist.
