Whether it’s a child born with a vascular birthmark (port wine stain, strawberry hemangioma) who seeks treatment to reduce pigmentation and obtain a more evened skin tone or adults who are looking to reduce the signs of acne scars or facial veins, laser treatments provide an array of options for patients who want to look their best.
Cosmetic laser resurfacing treatments are becoming the most productive and least invasive treatment for aging skin. Patients seeking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, even out their skin tone, and generally improve the skin quality of their face, neck, and chest can benefit from laser treatments at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Indiana.
For uneven skin tone and texture with a gentle approach, we offer Clear+Brilliant. This celebrity-favorite is so gentle that it’s requested before red carpet events and is even written into film contracts for skin rejuvenation and a radiant glow. It’s a wonderful prevention treatment and also excellent for maintenance following more aggressive laser resurfacing treatments.
Sun-damaged skin is characterized by blotchy brown pigmentation (dyschromia), redness, roughness, wrinkles, and laxity. Luckily, sun damage can be corrected using laser treatments. In our Indiana dermatology practice, we prefer the CO2 DOT Laser resurfacing to correct signs of sun damage. This allows patients to obtain a more evened tone and texture, effectively erasing the signs of sun damage.
Red skin conditions (often called “The Reds”) are trickier to correct largely due to their color. These conditions include rosacea, port wine stains, and stretch marks. For these conditions, we utilize a pulsed dye laser known as the V-Beam. Our practice was the first to utilize this device in the United States, and Dr. Hanke has instructed courses internationally on the use of this V-Beam laser treatment.
Many patients develop multiple unsightly, fine, linear red blood vessels (aka “spider veins”) on the nose and cheeks, giving a prematurely aged look to the face. Laser removal of the blood vessels results in a younger-looking, more even skin tone.
The CO2 laser is an ablative laser, meaning it vaporizes skin on the surface, which effectively removes the top-most layers of the skin. CO2 laser resurfacing can be focused down to a very thin beam and used to cut like a scalpel, or in a defocused mode to vaporize or ablate soft tissue. It is often referred to as laser skin resurfacing, because it removes the top layer of skin, revealing a more even skin tone and texture.
Birthmarks that occur on exposed parts of the body, such as the face or neck, may cause a person emotional or social burden. Laser treatments can work wonders by fading these vascular birthmarks, revealing a more evened skin tone.
