If you feel self-conscious about thin, aging or asymmetrical lips, Restylane Silk and Juvederm Ultra are two available options to provide a fuller, more defined pout. While both are valid options that have provided patients with more youthful looking lips, a new option that has been available in the UK and Canada was FDA approved in early 2016 that can provide patients with improved results: Juvederm Volbella.
Juvederm Volbella can add increased definition to the outlines of the mouth and lips. Developed by Allergan, the makers of Botox, this cosmetic injectable is specifically formulated for the mouth and lip area and is used to fill in wrinkles and unattractive gaps.
Dr. C. William Hanke, dermatologic surgeon at the LASSI, has a reputation that extends around the world. He has performed surgeries in seven different countries and has lectured at medical meetings in 25 countries. The LASSI was the first office-based dermatologic facility to be accredited in the state of Indiana and also performs clinical trials for both medical and cosmetic dermatology treatments.
During your consultation, Dr. Hanke and our team will take a full medical history and give you an examination to determine if you can safely receive Juvederm Volbella or if a different treatment would be better suited for you. We will also discuss your needs and expectations and how we can help you reach your aesthetic goals. Cost will also be discussed at this time.
Dr. Hanke will provide topical numbing if requested. Once the patient is comfortable, he will then begin injecting the filler with a blunt-tipped cannula. As Volbella also contains lidocaine, discomfort during treatment is minimal. Dr. Hanke will advise you of aftercare procedure and our team will schedule you for a follow-up appointment to check your final results and, if necessary, do some touchups.
While it is best to get your questions answered in person during your consultation, the following FAQs will give you a general idea of whether or not Juvederm Volbella is the right solution for you and what to expect during and after your lip enhancement treatment. Any questions or concerns should be discussed with Dr. Hanke and our team.
Juvederm Volbella works by combining hyaluronic acid with the water naturally found in the skin to restore fullness and vitality.
Volbella is injected into the treatment areas with a blunt-tipped cannula. Following the injection procedure, the treated areas may be gently massaged by the dermatologic surgeon. Depending on the areas treated, the injection process usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, not including the consultation.
Patients in relatively good health who want to refresh their look, enhance their natural appearance or correct an asymmetrical appearance are all good candidates for Volbella.
Juvederm Volbella includes the local anesthetic Lidocaine in its formulation. A topical anesthetic may also be applied. As this is a nonsurgical treatment, general anesthesia isn’t indicated.
Juvederm Volbella consists of a clear gel made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance found in the body. When used as an injectable filler, HA combines with water found in your skin to restore fullness and elasticity. Volbella also includes the local anesthetic Lidocaine for increased comfort.
Although results vary from person to person, most people can see visible results hours after treatment. Full results will be noticeable about 3 weeks after treatment, once the initial swelling subsides.
Juvederm Volbella is the first lip filler that is clinically proven to last up to 12 months with a single treatment.
Most people can resume normal activities immediately following a Volbella treatment. Your dermatologic surgeon may tell you not to wear makeup for 12 hours after the treatment is complete. You may also need to avoid sunlight, sauna, and cold temperatures for up to two weeks afterward. You may experience some swelling and perhaps bruising. However, we will provide you with instructions before and after treatment to help prevent and treat these symptoms.
The actual cost of a Volbella treatment will vary depending on how many syringes are needed and the number of injection sites. It’s also important to note that cost varies by location and experience of the physician. Keep this in mind as you consider which physician you choose to entrust with your cosmetic facial rejuvenation.
Those who have a history of serious allergies or who are allergic to Lidocaine or the gram-positive bacterial proteins used in the manufacturing of Juvederm should not use Volbella. If you’ve had a reaction to any other hyaluronic acid filler, you should avoid all fillers and look for other options. Please contact us for a consultation to find out what other options are available for your cosmetic lip treatment.
Potential side effects include swelling, bruising, redness and itching. Most side effects are mild and last only a few days. Seeing a board-certified dermatologist helps reduce the risk of more serious side effects or botched results. Choose your physician wisely.
Volbella before and after photos and testimonials can be found on RealSelf.com and the official Juvederm UK website. As more patients in the US receive this treatment, more options for before and after photos and testimonials will be available.
